Police ID driver killed in Portland crash as 18-year-old man – OregonLive

Portland police have identified the driver killed in a crash early Thursday as an 18-year-old man.

Obduwier Romero-Moreno of Portland died after hitting a tree off Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, just south of North Vancouver Way, according to police. No one else was inside the car.

Police, citing an early investigation, said it appeared Romero-Moreno was going north on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at the time of the crash. He hit the curb, police said, and his car may have gone airborne.

The car hit a large oak tree nearly 20 feet from the curb, according to police.

Romero-Moreno was taken to a hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal. His death marks Portland’s 48th traffic fatality of 2020.

Police urge anyone who saw the car — a blue, two-door 1994 Chevrolet Camaro — on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard sometime after 2 a.m. Thursday to contact Officer Chris Johnson at 503-823-2213 or [email protected].

Because of the remote location of the crash and the hour it occurred, police said there were no known witnesses or apparent possibilities for investigators to collect video evidence.
